Is Horse Teaching Really As Hard As I Hear?
Horse teaching is one of the fastest growing equestrian careers for many reasons. First of all, training a horse is virtually impossible for anyone new at it. They may think you can train a horse like a dog, but you can’t. A horse is much smarter, much larger, and less trusting. They may think you can train a horse like a child, but you can’t. A horse is much smarter, much larger, and less trusting! Teaching a horse to do what you want is virtually impossible, right?
So, people pay thousands of dollars to teach their horse to behave. They expect, by laying down a lot of cash, that someone else will come in and turn their unruly animal into a trusted friend. In reality, though, they are wasting their money. Horse teaching cannot be done by a stranger – it must be done by the rider, the owner, and the friend of the horse.
Because of this, most horse owners spend the majority of their time training their horse instead of riding her and enjoying their time together. After awhile, this becomes tiring and the owner may actually resent the task of training their horse.
There are several ways you can train a horse without calling in an expensive stranger to do it, or spending all of your waking hours doing it. Eric Bravo’s Gentle Natural Horsemanship course is a great way to get a quick start on horse teaching. It doesn’t rely on intimidating techniques that break a horse down and destroy its trust in the owner. It also doesn’t depend on threatening or abusing the horse like many teachers will do. Its gentle, natural techniques allow the horse to keep its dignity and the owner to alleviate a lot of the frustration that comes with training a horse.
